1. The ministry is advocating adoption of new technologies in road construction, and use of new material which will save the cost and increase the quality and life of the roads. 2. Technologies commercialised world over have been allowed to be adopted in the country. 3. Materials like iron slag, soil stabilizer have been allowed to widely use in road construction. 4. The ministry has constituted a committee to study and adopt global standards of roads and road constructions. 5. The ministry has directed to incorporate construction of barrages (bandharas), while designing and building new bridges wherever possible. 6. The bridge divisions have been advised to ensure to maintain navigationality of river/water bodies while designing the bridges. Utility corridors are being developed along the highways. 8. These corridors shall carry gas, iron slurry, water, optical fibre cable for Digital India and can also be used for power transmission. These shall help cross utilisation of infrastructure and additional revenue for national highways.
