Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, is the winner of National Tourism Award 2013-14 for best Airport in rest of India Category. Swami Vivekananda Airport Raipur is the winner of best Airport award in rest of India category at National Tourism Award ceremony held in Vigyan Bhawan on Friday 18th Sep. 2015. The award was conferred by President of India Pranab Mukherjee under different categories of travel, tourism and hospitality. Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent charge), for Tourism and Culture & Civil Aviation, presided over the function. It’s a coincidence that the terminal inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee in November 2012 was being awarded best Airport award in the country. All the participating airports except 6 metro Airports (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru & Hyderabad) were adjudged on seven parameters--touristfriendly infrastructure, maintenance and upkeep, adaptation of eco-friendly practices, availability of transport facility from the airport to the nearest city center, display of proper signage at important locations, facilities for the disabled, and other relevant features. Dr. Mahesh Sharma complimented Airport Director, Raipur, for keeping airport maintenance at such a high level and as a green airport in the country. Shri Anuj Aggrawal, Member (HR) & Shri G.K. Chaukiyal, Member (Operations), Airports Authority of India, were also present during the function

Chhattisgarh is fast emerging as an economic and industrial state of the country and the civil aviation ministry wants to construct an integrated cargo complex at Raipur airport if the state

government provides land. Swami Vivekananda Airport is the only operational Airport in the state of Chhattisgarh. The New Integrated Terminal Building is made of Glass and Steel Structure equipped with world Class Passenger Facilities. The large volumetric departure and the arrival lounges give a feeling of vastness and richness to the structure. The most vibrant areas like the departure lounge and the waiting areas have been distinctively provided with relief and interest features like indoor landscape, courtyard and water bodies, etc. The appropriately designed mounds and contours behave as visual barriers from the ongoing traffic movement. The first thing most passengers upon arrival view is the gorgeous landscaped ground in front of the Terminal, which has been created in perfect harmony with the extensive Green cover. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) endeavor has resulted in an airport with international class ambience and smooth air traffic transition. Swami Vivekananda Airport is now a vivid example of an exceptionally designed Airport in the country.
