SURYA MANDIR - KATARMAL
Katarmal temple: After Sun temple of Konark (Orissa), this is second Sun temple in Almora district situated at an altitude of 2, 116 mts.this sun-facing temple is designed in such way that first ray of the morning Sun falls on the idol of Lord Shiva's lingam.
One can also watch 44 smaller temples around the complex with stone-built walls, artistic pillar carvings and finely cut wooden doors. It was built in 9th century by Katarmala, a Katyuri king who was ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. It has been declared as national monument under Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act (1958).
