Solarization of AAI airports
AAI initiated solar power projects way back in 2010 with visionary approach towards “INVEST IN THE SUN” solar revolution & commitment to sustainability. In this endeavor started harnessing the solar energy, the best available renewable energy source. The roof top of AAI headquarter have been selected to setup environmental friendly 250 KWP grid interactive solar system under “Build Own and Operate Model (B.O.O), as an initiative under clean development mechanism. This model is re-christianized as “RESCO Model” subsequently by MNRE.
AAI has signed MOU with Solar Energy Corporation of India (a subsidiary of MNRE) to enhance the pace of this endeavor. AAI has completed 5.4 MWP roof top solar projects at 16 different Airports/ Units across India.
AAI’S efforts have been appreciated & recognized by MINISTRY OF NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY, Government of India and AAI is conferred with: ➢ “NATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2016” for roof top Solar Power Projects in the Public Sector Undertakings Category Awarded to AAI on 07th June 2016 during National Workshop on roof top Solar Power at Vigyanbhavan, New Delhi. AAI also appreciated by MNRE for the efforts made as on 31st March 2015 in promoting renewable energy and thereby contributing towards achieving energy security, energy equity, energy accessibility & sustainability in the country and AAI is conferred with: “AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE” on 27th August 2015 at Bengaluru, amongst the public sector undertakings of the Country and conferred 2nd place to AAI among the PSU’S for installation of cumulative capacity of grid connected roof top solar plants in the country. The solar energy generation so far is 51 Lakhs Units (Approx.) from the completed solar power plants at various airports. AAI has reduced 4622 Metric Tons of carbon emission solely from the installed solar plants, thereby reducing in carbon foot print which is a major factor of concern for climate change nowadays.
AAI’S journey of solar power harnessing further continued and awarded another 4.3 MWP solar roof top plant works, those are in progress at 11 airports irrespective of climatic ➢ conditions/ radiation levels of the states.
AAI has gone further steps to fulfill Honorable Prime Minister visionary steps towards solarization to meet rising demand of power and to reduce carbon foot print, AAI further expanded their horizon by awarding ground mounted solar PV plants of 19.8 MWP capacity at its 03 Airports viz Kolkata, Chandigarh & Jaipur, which are going to be completed shortly.
The feasibility studies to enhance the capacity of ground mounted solar projects are in progress to install solar power plants at major airports.
