So­lar­iza­tion of AAI air­ports

AAI ini­ti­ated so­lar power projects way back in 2010 with vi­sion­ary ap­proach to­wards “IN­VEST IN THE SUN” so­lar rev­o­lu­tion & com­mit­ment to sus­tain­abil­ity. In this en­deavor started har­ness­ing the so­lar en­ergy, the best avail­able re­new­able en­ergy source. The roof top of AAI head­quar­ter have been se­lected to setup en­vi­ron­men­tal friendly 250 KWP grid in­ter­ac­tive so­lar sys­tem un­der “Build Own and Op­er­ate Model (B.O.O), as an ini­tia­tive un­der clean de­vel­op­ment mech­a­nism. This model is re-chris­tian­ized as “RESCO Model” sub­se­quently by MNRE.

AAI has signed MOU with So­lar En­ergy Cor­po­ra­tion of In­dia (a sub­sidiary of MNRE) to en­hance the pace of this en­deavor. AAI has com­pleted 5.4 MWP roof top so­lar projects at 16 dif­fer­ent Air­ports/ Units across In­dia.

AAI’S ef­forts have been ap­pre­ci­ated & rec­og­nized by MIN­ISTRY OF NEW & RE­NEW­ABLE EN­ERGY, Gov­ern­ment of In­dia and AAI is con­ferred with: ➢ “NA­TIONAL EX­CEL­LENCE AWARDS 2016” for roof top So­lar Power Projects in the Pub­lic Sec­tor Un­der­tak­ings Cat­e­gory Awarded to AAI on 07th June 2016 dur­ing Na­tional Work­shop on roof top So­lar Power at Vi­gyanbha­van, New Delhi. AAI also ap­pre­ci­ated by MNRE for the ef­forts made as on 31st March 2015 in pro­mot­ing re­new­able en­ergy and thereby con­tribut­ing to­wards achiev­ing en­ergy se­cu­rity, en­ergy eq­uity, en­ergy ac­ces­si­bil­ity & sus­tain­abil­ity in the coun­try and AAI is con­ferred with: “AWARD FOR OUT­STAND­ING PER­FOR­MANCE” on 27th Au­gust 2015 at Bengaluru, amongst the pub­lic sec­tor un­der­tak­ings of the Coun­try and con­ferred 2nd place to AAI among the PSU’S for in­stal­la­tion of cu­mu­la­tive ca­pac­ity of grid con­nected roof top so­lar plants in the coun­try. The so­lar en­ergy gen­er­a­tion so far is 51 Lakhs Units (Ap­prox.) from the com­pleted so­lar power plants at var­i­ous air­ports. AAI has re­duced 4622 Met­ric Tons of car­bon emis­sion solely from the in­stalled so­lar plants, thereby re­duc­ing in car­bon foot print which is a ma­jor fac­tor of con­cern for cli­mate change nowa­days.

AAI’S jour­ney of so­lar power har­ness­ing fur­ther con­tin­ued and awarded an­other 4.3 MWP so­lar roof top plant works, those are in progress at 11 air­ports ir­re­spec­tive of cli­matic ➢ con­di­tions/ ra­di­a­tion lev­els of the states.

AAI has gone fur­ther steps to ful­fill Hon­or­able Prime Min­is­ter vi­sion­ary steps to­wards so­lar­iza­tion to meet ris­ing de­mand of power and to re­duce car­bon foot print, AAI fur­ther ex­panded their hori­zon by award­ing ground mounted so­lar PV plants of 19.8 MWP ca­pac­ity at its 03 Air­ports viz Kolkata, Chandi­garh & Jaipur, which are going to be com­pleted shortly.

The fea­si­bil­ity stud­ies to en­hance the ca­pac­ity of ground mounted so­lar projects are in progress to in­stall so­lar power plants at ma­jor air­ports.
