Dear Readers,

Winter has set in. But, we are lucky, that so far no major fog conditions have developed, leading to disruptions and delay in flight schedule and causing inconvenience to the air travellers. Airports Authority of India (AAI) is, as always, trying its best to help the airlines in maintaining timely flights schedule.

A major development in November, 2016 was the announcement by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to demonetize Rs. 500/- and Rs. 1,000/- notes in order to curb and control black-money. The Central Government introduced a series of concessions and interventions to help the people tide over the short-term difficulties arising out of the demonetization.

AAI, on its part, also rose to the occasion by taking several measures to help the air travellers. Wider publicity for the demonetization campaign of the Government of India was done at all our airports and establishments so as to reach the maximum number of people. AAI waived off car parking charges for a fortnight to facilitate the air travellers/airport users. Further, AAI liaisoned with banks and allowed them to open Currency Exchange Counters free of cost at all AAI airports for a period upto 31st December, 2016. AAI, with the active support of banks, has been able to ensure that ATM machines are stocked with adequate cash to meet the withdrawal requirements of the air travellers. I am sure that the demonetization exercise, despite the short-term inconvenience, will contribute a great deal towards ushering a responsible, cashless economy and promote transparency.

In my earlier piece, I had mentioned about the inauguration of state-of-the-art new Integrated Terminal Building at Vadodara Airport by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. I am delighted to inform that all operations are shifting from the old terminal building to the new terminal building from 1st December, 2016. This will provide air passengers using Vadodara Airport Terminal Building with a very pleasurable experience when they go there.

It is our constant endeavour to keep improving our infrastructure at all our airports. I wish you all a great travelling experience.

Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI
