From Chairman’s Desk /
As the Monsoon starts withdrawing from the Indian mainland, we enter into the festive season and start preparing for the major festivals that will occur in the next two months.
In this festive mood, I would like to inform you that the Airports Authority of India is very conscious of its Corporate Social Responsibilities. Recently, we have signed an MOU with ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), for supporting Cochlear Implant surgeries for underprivileged children across India at a cost of `7 crores.
As a part of the UDAN Scheme, RCS flights were flagged off in Mysore and Vidyanagar in Karnataka, by Shri Jayant Sinha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation. We are also extremely proud to announce to you that the upgraded Belagavi Airport was recently inaugurated by Shri P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Shri Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka. With a new centrally air-conditioned building spread over 3600 sq. metres, Belagavi Airport will now cater to more air passengers from this region. Since the Winter Session of the state’s Legislative Assembly is conducted in Belagavi, this new project will facilitate access to this region.
We are always committed to hone the skills and enhance the competencies of the air traffic controllers through several initiatives to ensure safe and efficient aircraft operations in the Indian sky. Recently, we have upgraded ourselves to a Twostream Rating Process for the air traffic controllers, a significant departure from the earlier Single Stream-multiple Rating system. In this issue, we bring to you a crucial aspect of air safety, the Air Navigation Services (ANS) and the in-country repair facilities. We also discuss Integrated ATC Training Simulators (IATS) which provides our air traffic controllers with holistic training in artificially induced conditions with state-of-the-art equipment that closely replicate real-life situations.
In this issue, our readers also get to read about the Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair. Named after the gallant freedom fighter, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, this airport is a window to the numerous pristine islands of Andaman & Nicobar.
I wish all the passengers a joyous month of celebrations and happiness; bon voyage!
Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI
