Banks to Loot and Scoot
This is with reference to the editorial “Banks to loot and scoot” (April). The BJP has established its power in most of the states and at the centre and set to transform the nation into one that is ideal and next to none in the entire history of independent India. The voters believed at the time of voting Narendra Modi and the BJP to power in 2014 that the nation would emerge into a well-developed one.
On the social front, there has been a greater awareness among the people with regard to well upkeep of environment following the launch of Swachh Bharat campaign, which made an impact across all sections of people. Additionally, Modi government is accredited for achieving high level electronic, technological and defence standards across the nation by providing a whopping budgetary allocations to meet the targets.
It is unfortunate that corruption at the low level among the people could be at least curtailed due to the fear of punishment, but a number of high level scams remained unfettered also during the BJP regime making no exception to the previous Congress rule. It is disconcerting to note that pensioners have been given a raw deal with no increments while postal and bank interest rates have slumped much to the chagrin of the investors during the current dispensation.
Although, internal terrorism in the country has come down drastically during the BJP reign, yet the cross-border terrorism and the firings across the Line of Control (LoC) have remained unceased even under its regime. However, there have been several cases of political unsettle- ments and skirmishes with regard to the maintaining of centre-state relations on various issues that have assumed critical dimensions forcing the Centre to remain vigilant against the threat of losing its credibility and equations of power in the next general elections.
The economic reforms initiated during the BJP regime which include demonetisation and GST were although meant for a good cause to curb corruption, black money and terrorism, but such measures have not only generated frustration and inconvenience among the public, but have also subjected the government and bureaucrats to a great deal of public rebuke and blasphemy.
Last but not the least, the BJP government under Modi during 5 year term has not succeeded in upkeeping the avowed election promises. Instead of a better India, the country is being looted by Vijay Mallyas and Nirav Modis in the backdrop of the national banks.
