Amazon to hire 120 K staff for holiday season
Amazon will recruit over 1,20,000 temporary staff for the upcoming holiday season in the US. The staff will be deployed at the e-retailer’s countrywide 75 fulfilment centres, sortation centres and customer service sites. According to Dave Clark, Amazon Senior Vice President of Global Customer Fulfilment, “We are looking forward to serving our customers in a better manner. Our workforce of 1,20,000 will help us to delight our customers.” The seasonal staff will extend their help to its more than 1,25,000 regular, full-time employees to ensure a smooth shopping experience to its customers. These temporary positions may be converted into full-time positions as well, reports suggest.
“We look forward to welcoming back holiday employees who return year-after-year to Amazon and welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue with regular, full-time roles in the company after the holidays,” said Clark. The hiring announcement by Amazon has come close on the heels to National Retail Federation’s (NRF) latest retail forecast. The association has predicted a 3.6 to 4 per cent increase in retail sales including online shopping during the holiday season of November and December this year.
The association estimates the total retail sales to remain between US $ 678.75 billion and US $ 682 billion as against US $ 655.8 billion last year. Amazon is aiming to capitalise on these opportunities like previous years. The hiring of staff is one among its many strategic moves to stay ahead in the e-commerce race. On the contrary, Amazon’s biggest arch-rival in the US, Walmart, will not be appointing any additional staff for 2017 holiday season.
