LNJ Bhilwara Group, has won the pres­ti­gious CITI Birla Award for the year 2017-18 for achiev­ing ex­cel­lence in sus­tain­abil­ity. The award con­sist­ing of a cheque for Rs. 2 lakh and a ci­ta­tion were pre­sented in an event re­cently. Di­nesh Ku­mar Mit­tal, Unit Head, Maral Over­seas Ltd. re­ceived the win­ning prize from CITI Chair­man San­jay K Jain. CITI’s Birla Eco­nomic and Tex­tile Re­search Foun­da­tion dis­trib­utes the award ev­ery year for out­stand­ing re­search in any branch of the tex­tile in­dus­try or its al­lied branches.

This year, the jury for se­lec­tion of the Win­ner of CITI Birla Award for 2017-18 in­cluded Dr. Arindam Basu, Di­rec­tor Gen­eral; NITRA as Jury Chair­man Dr. Prakash Va­sude­van, Di­rec­tor, SITRA;

Dr. An­jan K. Mukhopad­hyay, Di­rec­tor, BTRA; and MN Subra­ma­nian, Di­rec­tor, ATIRA as jury mem­ber.

Maral Over­seas Lim­ited uses var­i­ous kinds of sus­tain­able fi­bres like re­cy­cled polyester, bam­boos, soya fi­bre, etc. The cap­tive wash­ing is given more im­por­tance over over­flow wash­ing and they have their fully equipped RO, ETP and MEE plant with Zero Liq­uid Dis­charge (ZLD). 70 per cent of the wa­ter re­leased from their pro­duc­tion process is reused. The com­pany’s us­age of so­lar power and to­tal en­ergy saved in the last three years was 7,563 kWh/day. Be­sides, it also uses re­cy­clable and biodegrad­able pack­ing ma­te­rial.
