Despite the ongoing trade war between China and USA, there seems to have been no impact on Chinese apparel shipment to USA. China’s share in overall apparel import value increased to 31.68% in Jan. to Aug. ’18 period from 30.74% in Jan. to Jul. ’18 period. Vietnam, Bangladesh and India, on the other hand, felt the impact as they lose share from 15.03%, 6.95% and 5.24% in Jan. to Jul ’18, respectively to 14.90%, 6.72% and 5.02% in Jan. to Aug. ’18. The data contradicts the report ‘Trade Wars, Brexit, and Global Supply Chains’ recently released by Asia Inspection, Hong Kong, which says US apparel buyers are shifting to countries other than China.
