No month spells party the way December does! With backto-back festivities in the form of Christmas and New Year, it’s time to make space for the party stunners in your wardrobe. Here’s a checklist to begin with:

GOTHIC GLAMOUR

Give the classic party shades of amethyst, plum, fuchsia and violet a Gothic touch with a dash of matte and glittering black strokes. Designer Aniket Satam’s Fall/ Winter collection—Chic-A-Wicca— glamorises gothic fashion, to come up with a stunning range of party wear to choose from. “The collection is divided into four looks. The LWD which is my take on the LBD is known as the Little Witch Dress which is very sexy and youthful. The Goddess Gowns are signature draped evening ensembles which offer a more formal look. The Eclipse Trinity comprises cutout dresses and the Ombré Nights line features shaded jumpsuits and palazzos,” informs Aniket. For that youthful, trendy but slightly unconventional touch, Aniket Satam’s offerings are just what you were looking for!

TAMING THE CALL OF THE WILD!

Give a colourful twist to feminine fabrics this party season! Mix and match bold and soft hues onto fabrics like satin and crochet for a youthful yet sophisticated look. Wendell Rodricks’ ‘Source of Youth’ collection exhibited at Wills India Fashion Week 2014 masters this trend perfectly. His Africa-inspired collection, is a well-tailored, constructed range in soft feminine fabrics and neutral colours. Using satin, linen, georgette, crepe and crinkle cotton along with crochet to highlight the garments, the collection has embroidered motifs that recreate the charm of African beauty and colour. White is the preferred hue of the collection with hints of yellow and black which brings in an after dark story that suits the party theme perfectly. Go for the ultra-glamorous look with Wendell’s fuchsia off-shoulder column gown and luxurious cape whereas stylish ruffles edged with black for churi sleeves are just apt for that formal evening party.

ITALIAN INSPIRATIONS

The Italians are all about subtle glam and that is what you can bring into your party wear by taking a leaf out of their fashion books. Nivedita Saboo’s festive line paints a beautiful Italian picture as the colour story moves from gorgeous ivory, marble and grey to charcoal, bright marigold gold, rust, honey, mustard and then onto shades of angel, nautical and twilight blue. The silhouettes are sexy and seductive with detailing playing an important part. Lavish fabrics like lace, chiffon, georgette and tulle make for an exquisitely formal look. Short and sassy, the ornate Swarovski and gems added on the waist, neck, shoulders and hemlines infuse your ensemble with just what it needs to sashay proudly on the dance floor. Men too, can draw inspiration from the designer’s collection that gives an interesting fashion direction to textured jackets with contrasting lapels, and a hint of shimmer for the fabrics. The look is lean and fitted, combined with printed shirts for added colour. Tuxedos are given a more contemporary touch with interesting detailing. Going the Italian way seems to be dominating the fashion scene closer home as well. Nilesh Jani of Jani Apparels, Mumbai who handles the men’s fashion brands of Par Excellence and PXL says, “This party season, our collection will veer more towards club wear that has been inspired by Italian and Turkey dressing along with a hint of the Bollywood look as well.”

ORGANIC REVELRY!

Think nature and party don’t go handin-hand? Designer Nachiket Barve makes you rethink this statement with his utterly feminine and nature-inspired collection, Fossil. Nachiket weaves leaves, extinct dragonflies, foliage, ammonite, molluscs, granite and marble textures into a compact fashion story that blends seamlessly into the party themes of the season.

FOR THE EXPERIMENTAL PARTY LOOK GO FOR A FIGURE-HUGGING SHEATH DRESS THAT WILL SET THE FESTIVE MOOD PERFECTLY!

Go for a colour palette that portrays a melodious play between shades of chalk, oatmeal, ivory, silver-grey, sandstone, beige, nude and old rose with strong shades of red and anthracite. Fabrics such as silk, chanderi, crepe, chiffon, georgette, organza and cotton seem to be the perfect drapes for nature-inspired party wear. Nachiket’s collection that includes crop/ boxy tops, flowing dresses, shorts, cuffed cropped pants and loose jackets adds a quirky edge to your wardrobe this season.

CONTEMPORARY TWISTS

This season give the traditional and classic party dress a contemporary twist by mixing solid lace and embroidery together. Designer Drashta Sarvaiya has done this beautifully where she has innovatively blended ikat with eyecatching laces and pastels to create a gorgeous array of party dresses to choose from. Experiment further by turning out in a figure-hugging sheath dress that has hints of appliqués woven on an abstract ikat base in grey, black and blue; setting the mood for festivities perfectly! The lacy-waist, knee-length bias cut skirt dress; ankle-skimming cigarette pants and the flirty ‘50s look for embroidery/ print are beautifully juxtaposed, lending party wear a trendy and modish appeal.

THE RED CARPET CHARM

For those want to make a ‘celeb party diva’ entry, look no further than Swapnil Shinde’s latest collection. From ensembles like the shocking pink draped sari gown with gold crafted body detailing and pink-orange mini sheath to the saffron georgette gown with gold fake leather décor on the bodice—sexy yet elegant is the way to go for that ultimate diva look. The classic black can be displayed through minis and gowns in net and silk combinations with gold/black faux leather detailing on the bodice, shoulders, waist and neck or as corsets. And for that dramatic Red Carpet arrival, choose any one of Swapnil’s four magnificent fish-tail gowns in royal blue, bright pink, neon orange and gold.

MAKE A BRIGHT SPLASH ON THE PARTY CIRCUIT WITH RICH COLOURS OF OCHRE GOLD, CLASSIC RED, ROYAL BLUE AND SALMON PINK!

“For my silhouettes, I have stayed true to fusion gowns and short dresses, which can move from party wear to formal evening glamour. There are one-shoulder sheath dresses, which have a discreet sexy appeal. For my colour palette I have selected bright, solid and vibrant tones like ochre, electric blue and fuchsia pink. I have kept my embellishments very subdued but at the same time very eye-catching; maybe a gleaming brooch for a one-shoulder or an ornate yoke for a halter-neckline gown. My empire line, strappy long maxis have a glittering bodice with an Indian touch,” states Lina. Very feminine with a timeless quality attached to them, Lina Tipnis’ line fits the current party trends effortlessly.
