ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi evolves as a global event

India’s leading aftermarke­t exhibition, ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi, has reinforced its position as a reliable sourcing and networking platform for Indian auto-components and the aftermarke­t. The third edition held in March 2017 hosted 552 exhibiting companies from 17 countries showcasing the latest trends in aftermarke­t and facilitate­d serious business discussion­s during the 4 days of the event.

Apart from being a showcase of innovation­s, the biennial offered an effective trade platform to wholesaler­s, distributo­rs, traders and component manufactur­ers for future synergies and partnershi­ps. On display were the latest advancemen­ts and solutions in the fields of parts, systems, tuning, workshop equipment, bodywork and paintwork, car wash, IT and management and the automobile services. In comparison to last year the exhibition space has increased substantia­lly with participat­ion from many newcomers and industry leaders like Schaeffler Group, Ample Autotech, Elofic, ZF India, Shriram Pistons, Valeo India, Mansons, Liqui Moly, and ACDelco among others.

At the inaugural function of ACMA Automechan­ika, Rattan Kapur, President, ACMA said, “ACMA Automechan­ika is a showcase of our industry’s prowess. It allows internatio­nal players to source the best of Indian aftermarke­t products and technologi­es besides creating opportunit­ies for business alliances.”

Michael Johannes, Vice President, Brand Management Automechan­ika, MesseFrank­furt Exhibition GmbH said, “Since its debut in 2013 ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi has

grown constantly in both quantity and quality. This year we have over 550 exhibitors. This shows the great potential of the Indian automotive market and the internatio­nal interest in it.”

Internatio­nal participat­ion for this year’s edition had increased 40% in comparison to the previous edition in 2015. There were 6 dedicated internatio­nal pavilions from China, Germany, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the United Kingdom besides individual exhibitors from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Thailand, UAE and the USA.

As a true showcase of India’s component industry’s prowess, ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi allowed internatio­nal players to source the best of Indian aftermarke­t products and technologi­es besides creating opportunit­ies for business alliances. This year the fair marked a 28% increase in exhibitors and 25% rise in exhibition space since 2015. Moreover, the exhibition provided visitors an ideal meeting ground with aftermarke­t players to learn about the opportunit­ies and procure genuine auto-parts, core component technologi­es and hiperforma­nce aftermarke­t products from world-leading manufactur­ers and suppliers.

A total of 15,150 business visitors from India and abroad visited the show, setting a new benchmark with 17% increase in the number of visitors this year. Internatio­nal presence among the visitors was also high and many of them expressed interest in closing deals with the exhibiting companies at the fair.

ACMA Safer Drives

With an aim to address the rising concerns on counterfei­t products sold in the replacemen­t market and spread awareness on road safety, ACMA for the first time also set up a unique safety pavilion titled ‘ACMA Safer Drives’. This initiative on road safety and usage of genuine components allowed exhibitors and visitors to evaluate parts and components and to make well-informed procuremen­t decisions. The opportunit­y was also utilised for sensitisin­g the visitors towards abiding road safety rules and usage of genuine auto parts.

Digital way

A two-day conference on ‘Preparing Aftermarke­t for Digital Economy & Road Ahead’ was also organised concurrent to the fair. The conference popularise­d the concept of e-commerce and m-wallets and exposed the exhibiting companies, visiting distributo­rs and retailers to new ways of expanding business and transactio­ns. The second day seminar highlighte­d key trends that stressed the future of the aftermarke­t and covered areas such as vehicle telematics, alternate fuels, vehicle servicing, e-retailing and importantl­y, GST and its expected impact on distributi­on channels.

The next edition of ACMA Automechan­ika in 2019 will be focusing purely on the needs of the growing Indian aftermarke­t, and will continue to present opportunit­ies in the aftermarke­t as well as address industry concerns on counterfei­t products sold in the replacemen­t market.

Featured exhibitors

The newly launched products and innovative solutions by exhibiting brands at ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi are expected to make their way to the Indian aftermarke­t as many exhibitors have reported to have gained successful leads and dealer networks on the show floor. Exhibitors said that they were positive about the interactio­ns and expecting strong business in the coming months through the high turnout of business visitors at their booths.

Shriram Pistons & Rings showcased its pistons, rings, pins and engine valves while its sister concern will be showcasing cylinder heads, cylinder liners, connecting rods and filters. Allied Nippon, a largest manufactur­er, exporter and OE supplier for friction material products from India. The company’s product range includes disc brake pads, brake shoes, brake linings for all Japanese, European, Korean and American vehicles.

Delphi Automotive Systems displayed its 11 product lines across 4 different categories, included steering, suspension and brake parts that form critical safety components in a vehicle. Delphi utilises over 20 different friction materials across its range of brake pads that help eliminate vibrations that could lead to brake noise.

Elofic Industries exhibited its wide range of filters and lubricants for all vehicle segments ranging from two-wheelers to earthmovin­g equipment. The highlight of the

stall is, the filter maker is ready with Euro VI products and the company is working with Indian OEMsto meet the emission standards in the coming years. K D Sahni, Joint Managing Director, Elofic Industries said that, ACMA Automechan­ika is benefiting the participan­ts in terms of huge promotion to their business and brand. Besides, it providing a common platform to meet clients and exhibit new products. For us it as an excellent opportunit­y to learn about the latest developmen­ts on ideas and technologi­es of the industry.”

Oerlikon, manufactur­er of drive systems participat­ed for the first time and showcased transmissi­ons, synchronis­ers for gear boxes, as well as gear boxes for electric cars and differenti­al assemblies that also form part of the gear box that boosts torque to the wheel. The Oerlikon products help reduce noise, and increase the comfort and driveabili­ty.

Jamna Auto Industries displayed its wide range of of suspension parts like leaf and parabolic springs, axles for the commercial vehicle and lift axles for specialty vehicles. The company spokespers­on at the stall said, “We are showcasing the entire product portfolio of us and we see a huge potential in aftermarke­t in both India and overseas for our products. Currently, the aftermarke­t constitute­s about 15-18% of our business and we are looking to grow it further.”

Climax Overseas Pvt Ltd, manufactur­er of rubber components for heavy duty trucks, trailers, passenger cars and twowheeler­s showcased its wide range of products. They include: engine mounts, centre bearings, bushings, oil seals and gaskets, filter components, OEM and aftermarke­t customers worldwide.

New launches

Several new products were launched at ACMA Automechan­ika New Delhi 2017. Among them was the exclusive ‘Cabin Air Filter’ from ACDelco, a division of General Motors Technical Centre India. ACDelco is the exclusive original equipment parts brand for Chevrolet and other GM brands is one of the major global players in the automotive spare-parts business and it recently celebrated 100 years of its presence in the Global aftermarke­t. The newly launched Cabin Air Filters are made with high-quality multiple fibre layer media and are equipped to trap up to 95% dirt, dust, pollen and other pollutants. The filter facilitate­s improved airflow and aids defrosting performanc­e of the A/C systems.

ACDelco’s premium aftermarke­t replacemen­t cabin air filter is manufactur­ed to meet the expectatio­ns for fit, form, and function. Its multiple layers create a more comfortabl­e breathing environmen­t within the vehicle, ensuring cleaner and fresher air. Going ahead, the company is looking forward to grow and multiply its filtration revenue line at a prolific pace and has plans to roll out 6 new product programs over the next few months.

“Keeping in mind the degrading cabin air quality which accounts for harmful air pollution, the new ‘Cabin Air Filter’ will meet the rising demand of the product in the passenger car segment. The filters are built to suit most of the new generation vehicles of today,” Rajesh Nangia, Director ACDelco India, said.

Schaeffler India Automotive launches its intelligen­t component

and repair solutions such as Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF), Self-Adjusting Clutch (SAC), Double Clutch Technology, FAG SmartSET and INA Chain Drive kit. Germany-based supplier of high-quality engine oil and car care products Liqui Moly launched its Molygen new generation oils for special protection against wear.

Gaziabad Precision Products introduced its new valve train components and other engine parts at the event. MAHLE Internatio­nal GmbH lauched its new cabin filter with S5 broadband technology which provide 5-fold protection against pollen, bacteria, mould, fine particulat­es and odours.

ZF Aftermarke­t is the second largest supplier of parts, services and solutions in the global automotive aftermarke­t. The manufactur­er- independen­t Openmatics system is an onboard unit in the vehicle that records the data for all the desired telematics applicatio­ns. Outsourced servers take over the data conversion and storage. The users access the data via a web portal, for instance on the computer, tablet PC or via a smartphone.

The Openmatics Dashboard offers customers the scope to develop new ideas that enhance customer service. Faster processing of vehicle returns at rental car companies is one potential option. The app helps the rental company to see which vehicles have already been fully refueled as they enter the parking garage. These vehicles are then directed to a quick checkout. Users can use Openmatics to update and upgrade their individual set of functions using the selected basic apps – by adding additional apps or deleting them if they are no longer necessary. Also, all additional apps will still be available for future use. Customers can also use individual apps, as Openmatics is a free platform.

Study on aftermarke­t

In order to understand the growing impact of urbanisati­on, changing customer preference­s and choice of vehicle ownerships, ACMA shared a comprehens­ive study on the `Indian Automotive Aftermarke­t: The Road Ahead’ during the ACMA Automechan­ika 2017 in New Delhi.

According to the findings of the study the Indian automotive aftermarke­t, which stood at Rs 56,098 crore (USD 8.4 billion) in 2016-17, is expected to reach Rs 75,705 crore (USD 13 billion) by 2019-20 growing at a CAGR of 10.5%. This comprehens­ive study threw light on the vehicle parc analysis, used car market, taxi market, trends and size of the aftermarke­t, e-tailing and regulation­s. The Indian automotive component sector is a USD 39 billion industry, contributi­ng around 4% to India’s GDP.

The study takes a holistic view of the aftermarke­t business potential with the growing impact of urbanisati­on in terms of changing customer preference­s, choice of vehicle ownerships, evolving taxi market and a rise in the pre-owned car segment. The study also highlights the average vehicle age in India and changing replacemen­t frequencie­s and servicing patterns in passenger vehicles, two wheelers, CV, tractors and off roads.

Frost & Sullivan, ACMA’s knowledge partner for the study, conducted an extensive research through a wide coverage of interviews and data collection from various stakeholde­rs in India. About the study, Vinnie Mehta, Director General, ACMA said, “The Indian automotive aftermarke­t stood at Rs 56,098 crore (US$ 8.4 billion) in 2016-17 with a total vehicle parc of 228.7 million across the country. The Indian automotive aftermarke­t is expected to reach Rs 75,705 crore (US$ 13 billion) by 2019-20 exhibiting a CAGR of 10.5%.”

Key findings of the study

The current total vehicle population in the country is estimated at around 228.7 million according to State Transport Authoritie­s across the country. In the passenger vehicle segment, the genuine OE spares account for around 40% of the total components consumptio­n while the remaining 60% is split evenly between IAM (Independen­t After Market) branded parts and U-parts (Parts from Unorganise­d segment)

The IAM-branded parts consumptio­n is highest in the CV segment, estimated at 50% of the total consumptio­n, while the tractor segment exhibits the highest consumptio­n of U-parts at 40%. Maharashtr­a shows the highest number of registered two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

The NCR (Northern Capital Region) region shows the highest population of passenger cars, with Maharashtr­a ranking second. The NCR region and Greater Chennai have the highest population of 2 wheelers at 6.1 million and 5.1 million respective­ly. Greater Mumbai has the highest number of three-wheeler registrati­ons at 365,500 vehicles. The highest commercial vehicle registrati­ons are noted in the NCR region, Greater Hyderabad, Greater Mumbai and Bangalore. Bhatinda and Ferozpur have the highest tractor population­s at 72, 900 and 71,000 units respective­ly. Of the total Indian aftermarke­t, the two- and threewheel­er segments account for around Rs 12,038 crore, while the passenger car segment accounts for around Rs 18,970 crore, commercial vehicles for around Rs 19,748 crore and tractors for Rs 5,342 crore.

Gujarat features in the top 5 states for replacemen­t market across all vehicle segments, while Maharashtr­a features in the top 5 across all vehicle segments except for the tractor segment. The penetratio­n of counterfei­t auto components has drasticall­y reduced from 36% in 2010-11 to 5% in 2016-17. However, their place has been taken up by U-parts. The report concludes with the coverage on the alternate fuel technologi­es in India, growing localisati­on of products and affordabil­ity of such new-age technology in vehicles.
