After doing a market study on suspension for the linehaul multi-axle trucks, Meritor India, manufacturer of axles and second largest in brakes, entered into the suspension business with its new Slipper type system recently. The new suspension is meant for medium duty trucks of 25T to 37T capacity. Slipper type comes in the category of leaf spring suspension with its own unique characteristics. Meritor India will introduce a range of customised suspension products in India in the next 2 to 3 years.

With the introduction of Slipper type suspension for multi-axle linehaul application earlier this year, Meritor India made its intentions clear to bring world class suspension products to India. Meritor India became the first company to offer a mechanical 4-leaf suspension for Indian commercial trucks,

which currently use bell-crank type suspension. Meritor’s slipper suspension is also the first full slipper type suspension with patented features offering unmatched performance.

The tests and field trials so far have proven 20-30% tire life improvement. This combined with low-cost maintenance makes Meritor’s slipper suspension the best solution for multiaxle linehaul application. For more than 65 years, Meritor has engineered and manufactured groundbreaking components that are the benchmark for trailer, military and specialty suspensions for global market. Next in development stage is a unique lift-axle suspension and trailer suspension that comes as a complete module with trailer axles and brakes.

Meritor HVS India & Automotive Axles Ltd., a joint venture of Meritor Inc. of the US and the Kalyani Group, is poised to take on the challenge of next level growth. Well known for its drivetrain and braking system for highway, off-highways and military applications, the group has manufacturing facilities in Mysore, Jamshedpur and Pantnagar and an aftermarket warehouse in Pune. With over 100 retail outlets across the country, Meritor is also expanding in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. It has engineering centers in Bengaluru and Mysore. The upcoming state-of-the art R&D facility in Mysore with a dedicated multi-axis test rig will help to speed up the product development.

Having entered the Indian market over 3 decades ago, Meritor has created a very strong brand in the country, bringing out products to suit the local conditions, constantly innovating and coming up with new technologies and covering different geographies within the country with a strong team for sales and after sales support. Being a major global player has certainly been an advantage for Meritor, but Meritor India’s ability to leverage the global advantage to cater to local requirements has been the key to success in a challenging

market like India.
