Two cars that launch this month will sell because of their importance in their segments

The new Ecosport is a strange one at that, if we can call it new. What is essentially new is the petrol engine, the new automatic gearbox and the new dashboard complete with the new SYNC

3 infotainment system. While the infotainment system upgrade was required and necessary and adds great value to the SUV, the other changes are justified only if there is a price reduction in atleast some of the models of the car.

Two important cars that launch this month are not going to be in the limelight because of the volumes they will sell but because of the importance they bring to their segments and also for differing reasons.

The Skoda Octavia RS is the real deal for the first time despite SkodaAuto having sold some RS badged models in the past. Not only is it a very practical car but it is also an enthusiast’s delight complete with the blip in the exhaust note. Whoever in the Indian media has driven the RS has raved about it and this has shown in the sales of the car as the entire first consignment had already been sold out at the time of its launch. We also drove the car and you can read its first drive report in the current issue. Another vehicle that is causing some consternation is the launch of the new Land Rover Discovery. Land Rovers are doing very well these days and the Discovery badge is the pinnacle of the brand’s off-road capabilities. We enjoyed doing some serious offroading with the SUV and found no fault in its off-roading capabilities as you can read in this issue itself.

Also in this issue is the Great Himalayan Challenge where we have attempted to cross some of the highest mountain passes in the world during the course of our drive and that too in a Mercedes-Benz GLC, besides continuing on the Heritage Drive in a Hyundai Creta.

We’ve also pit the Volkswagen Tiguan against the Hyundai Tucson only to discover that though the Tiguan is a really great car to drive it just can not compete with the Hyundai because of its pricing.

And apart from these drives and test the issue is once again packed to the gills with news and new cars. So enjoy and drive and ride safe till next month.
