BRINGING ELECTRIC mobility to the commercial vehicles sector, Tesla Motors has launched their new heavy-duty all-electric truck called the Tesla Semi. It has a drag coefficient of 0.36, a figure unheard of for a heavy-duty rig and one which even surpasses many modern cars available in the market today. It is powered by four separate electric motors on the rear axle, giving it the ability to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 5 seconds and do the same with a full load at the back in just 20 seconds. With two separate battery pack configurations, the Tesla Semi gives customers the choice of one with a 480km range or a larger one with a 800km range. Tesla also launched their new Megachargers at the event, charging with which can add 640km of range for the Semi in just 30 minutes time. Being a product of Tesla, the new heavy-duty all-electric truck also gets semi-autonomous capabilites to its list of features. The future-ready new truck comes standard with Enhanced Autopilot features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Lane Keeping and Forward Collision Warning.
