These kids are too young to ride on the road, but that doesn’t stop them from burning up the track

THE RED BULL Rookies Cup, held in Spain, is a stepping stone for the best young riders in the world to get into premier class racing. The cream of the crop will have an opportunit­y to try their hand in Moto3, Moto2 and, if really good enough, in MotoGP. Red Bull and Suzuki have introduced the Road to Rookies Cup to give young riders here in India the opportunit­y to compete for a spot in the Rookies Cup, to be held this October. These kids are between the ages of 13 and 17, and their dedication on track must be appreciate­d. RACE ONE

The first race on Saturday saw favourite Aaron Gunawerdhe­na crash out on the second lap, while Sachin Choudhary was able to secure a win. In second place was Varoon, .332 of a second behind the leader, closely followed by Alexander in third place.

RACE TWO

This time it was Sachin Choudhary who crashed out on the second lap of Race Two, while Aaron Gunawerdhe­na was back in form, setting a fastest lap (2:12.772), and finishing the race a full 18 seconds ahead of Varoon in second place. Third place once again went to Alexander

RACE THREE

All of 13 years old, Aaron Gunawerdhe­na proved his mettle once again by setting a fastest lap (2:14.348) and finishing in first place, over 16 seconds ahead of Varoon. Yet again it was Alexander who only just grabbed the last spot on the podium, just half a second ahead of Sachin Choudhary.
