ENGINE MAPS
In bikes with electronic fuel-injection, the control unit for the fuel system is loaded with a set of pre-programmed ‘maps’ which dictate how much fuel is to be injected at what engine speed, based on everything from air pressure and temperature to fuel quality and throttle position. The control unit can also vary the fuel injection dynamically to improve engine response, efficiency and performance. Modern sport bikes like the Ducati Panigale and Aprilia RSV4 let riders fine-tune these maps using specified software applications. Yes, there’s an app for that.
