Can One Go One Size Up?

Bike India - - Technomail -

I am a regular reader and also a big fan of your magazine. I love it because it helps me find the answers to most of my bikerelated questions. I wanted to know about tyres. I own a Bajaj Pulsar 200NS that has clocked about 17,000 kilometres. I would like to change the standard Eurogrip rear tyre and wanted to know if I could go up a size. I am planning to fit the Continental 140/70 R17 tyre. Will upgrading from a 130/70 R17 to a 140/70 R17 be a good idea? Will it affect the pickup and fuel consumption? I also want to fit a K&N RC 1060 air-filter for better performance. I hope you can help me with these questions.

Fitting the Pulsar 200NS with a 140/70 R17 will definitely have some negative effect on fuel efficiency and pick-up. We would recommend that you stick to the tyre size that is specified by Bajaj. If you still want to upgrade to a wider tyre, we would ask you to look for a 140/60 R17 tyre. As for the K&N filter, you can go ahead and fit it. It will help the engine breathe better.
