New Tyres

Bike India - - TECHNOMAIL -

I am a regular reader of your magazine because it helps me find answers to bike-related questions. I own a Royal Enfield Electra (2008 model). I have already replaced the rear tyre with the one which comes with the Classic, that is, 18” 110/90, and for that to be possible I have already made the required changes to the swingarm. Now I wish to change the rear tyre since I have already done about 50,000 km. A tyre dealer suggested the CEAT VERTIGO RAGE 18” 120/80, which is basically a tubeless tyre, but with tuff-up tube as I have a spoke rim. I want to know if, as the aspect ratio changes in the aforementioned tyre, it will affect handling, mileage, chain setting and gear-shift of my bike. Please advise me. Although it is all right to go up a size when it comes to tyres, we won’t recommend to you to go in for the mentioned tyre size because doing so will make the tyre buckle which can prove to be bad for the tyre and ultimately for you. We would recommend that you go in for the same size or a size up only.
