University of Houston signs MoU with Indian Nursing Council
The University of Houston, College of Nursing and the Indian Nursing Council, a national regulatory body for nurses and nurse education in India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), for developing opportunities for nursing education in India through academic and leadership exchange.
The Nurse Practitioner Critical Care programmes in India will support hospitals to increase the number of higher educated nurses trained to care for critically ill patients. The nurse practitioners will work closely with physicians to provide treatment and care for patients in intensive care units.
Graduates of the Nurse Practitioner Critical Care programme will be eligible to pursue the doctoral programme. The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) programme is a professional graduate degree which focuses on the clinical aspects of a disease process and uses evidenced-based practice to improve patient outcomes. Nurses in India with a DNP will have completed the highest level of training in nursing practice. Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in Chennai has inked a pact with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (RCPS), Glasgow, UK, for training medical graduates in preparatory courses and examinations of MRCP, MRCS and FRCS. With this, the Sri Ramchandra Institute (SRI) will become the centre for the Royal College’s medical education and training activities in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, sources from the Institute claimed. The MoU was signed by Prof. David J. Galloway, president of the Royal College and Dr
P V Vijayaraghavan, vice-chancellor of the SRI. The tie-up will allow both institutions to support delivery of postgraduate healthcare training and assessment in many disciplines in dental and oral surgery, international travel medicine, specialist surgical and medical assessment education, training in foot pathology and pediatric medicine. Both the institutions will develop joint postgraduate education, training and clinical skills programs further to enhance clinical standards through clinical assessment and examinations.
