Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle & Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) closed fi­nan­cial year 2016-17 on a his­toric high and cre­ated new records in chal­leng­ing mar­ket sce­nario. Shar­ing high­lights of Honda’s per­for­mance in FY’16-17, Mr. Yad­vin­der Singh Gu­le­ria, Se­nior Vice Pres­i­dent - Sales and Mar­ket­ing, Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle and Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. said, “In the be­gin­ning of FY’2016-17 es­pe­cially af­ter monsoon and 7th CPC, in­dus­try was hope­ful of dou­ble digit growth. The sec­ond half was how­ever a chal­leng­ing time and twowheeler in­dus­try closed the fis­cal with only 5% growth. In this con­text, we are hum­bled by the con­fi­dence of cus­tomers in Honda brand. In­dia is now firmly lead­ing the Honda DNA world­wide. We thank cus­tomers for mak­ing Honda 2Wheel­ers In­dia the first 100% sub­sidiary of Honda Mo­tor Com­pany, Ja­pan glob­ally to ever achieve 5 mil­lion sales land­mark in a sin­gle fi­nan­cial year. Honda is to­day the high­est vol­ume gainer as well as the mar­ket share gainer of the in­dus­try. We are con­fi­dent that 201718 will be a land­mark year and Honda 2Wheel­ers will change the way In­dia and the world will ride home.” Honda 2Wheel­ers In­dia closed FY’2016-17 with all time high to­tal sales of 5,008,103 units. To­tal sales grew at 12% (which is more than dou­ble the 5% growth of to­tal in­dus­try in the same pe­riod) over 4,483,462 units sold in FY’15-16. Honda’s ac­cel­er­ated growth made it the No. 1 vol­ume gainer of the in­dus­try (Honda 2Wheel­ers In­dia alone con­trib­uted 54% to the ad­di­tional in­dus­try vol­umes) & No. 1 mar­ket share gainer of the in­dus­try (Only com­pany to gain 1% mar­ket share to 27% in do­mes­tic and 25% in to­tal sales in FY’16-17). Honda’s to­tal au­to­matic scooter sales crossed 3 mil­lion mark for the first time ever to reach at 3,351,604 units with 16% growth com­pared to 2,892,480 units in FY’15-16. De­spite ex­port in­dus­try de-grow­ing by -6% in FY’16-17, ex­ports was the strong­est gain point. Honda’s ex­ports grew by an over­whelm­ing 41% in­creas­ing from 200,114 units in FY’15-16 to 283,153 units in FY’16-17.

a top man­age­ment change in Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle & Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI). Mr. Mi­noru Kato is ap­pointed as new Pres­i­dent & CEO, Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle & Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. with ef­fect from 1st April 2017. Af­ter spear-head­ing Honda’s In­dian two-wheeler op­er­a­tions for six years, Mr. Keita Mu­ra­matsu – the cur­rent Pres­i­dent & CEO, Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle & Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) will move on to as­sume a new role as Ex­ec­u­tive Vice Pres­i­dent – Amer­i­can Honda Co., Inc. High­lights of Mr. Keita Mu­ra­matsu’s ca­reer in In­dia Dur­ing Mr. Mu­ra­matsu’s 6 year ten­ure in In­dia, Honda 2Wheel­ers In­dia rapidly grew to be­come the Num­ber One con­trib­u­tor to Honda’s two-wheeler sales glob­ally for the first time ever in 2016. Another pri­or­ity of Mr. Mu­ra­matsu was cre­at­ing a dis­tinct & dif­fer­en­ti­ated im­age as the ONLY Honda in In­dian two-wheeler in­dus­try. This gave birth to In­dia spe­cific brand di­rec­tion ‘Sach Kar denge Sapne’ and emo­tional con­nect through brand am­bas­sadors Akshay Ku­mar and Taapsee Pannu. Dur­ing his stew­ard­ship of HMSI, Mr. Keita Mu­ra­matsu was rec­og­nized as the ‘Best CEO Multi-Na­tional Com­pany’ by Forbes In­dia and brand Honda 2Wheel­ers was rec­og­nized as a Su­per­brand and Most Trusted Brand (Gold Award for two-wheeler cat­e­gory) and is now among Top 50 Most trusted Brands (Eco­nomic Times Brand Eq­uity sur­vey 2016). In­tro­duc­tion of Mr. Mi­noru Kato Mr Mi­noru Kato will as­sume charge as the new Pres­i­dent & CEO of Honda Mo­tor­cy­cle & Scooter In­dia Pvt. Ltd. from 1st April 2017, re­plac­ing Mr. Keita Mu­ra­matsu. Born in 1965, Mr Mi­noru Kato started his ca­reer in Honda Ja­pan from 1988 in pro­duc­tion con­trol di­vi­sion of au­to­mo­bile op­er­a­tions at Saitama plant. From 1994 to 1998, he moved to mo­tor­cy­cle op­er­a­tions at Ja­pan head­quar­ter where he was in­volved in plan­ning and sub­se­quently do­mes­tic sales. In 2001, Mi­naru Kato held the po­si­tion of Man­ager at Honda Thai­land. Four years later, he gained more ex­pe­ri­ence of Asia Ocea­nia re­gion by tak­ing over the same re­spon­si­bil­ity in Honda In­done­sia. In 2007, he re­turned to Ja­pan in busi­ness plan­ning di­vi­sion of mo­tor­cy­cle op­er­a­tions. Later in Oc­to­ber 2011, he shifted base to U.K as the CEO of Honda Mo­tor Europe Co., Ltd. And most re­cently, Mr Mi­noru Kato held po­si­tion as the CEO of Honda Viet­nam Co., Ltd. from April 1st, 2014. In his 29 years of rich ex­pe­ri­ence within Honda, Mr Kato brings with him do­main ex­per­tise from pro­duc­tion con­trol to mo­tor­cy­cle plan­ning, sales across Europe and Ja­pan, and South East Asia.
