Business Sphere - - EAGLE GROUP - By Our Correspondent

Things are surely made good and proper when a company is an all-in-one entity. When it has several prolific nuances in its core orb, it comes to be a novel idea of super success. The Eagle Group of Companies is one such organization. Having inherited its base in 1970, as part owners and operators of the iconic Plaza Cinema Building, Connaught Place, Delhi this group has tried to capitalize on all opportunities which have come its way. Incidentally, the first new age company founded under its aegis was Eagle Forgings. The first hotel they supplied a mini bar to was “The Oberoi”, Delhi in 1986. As on date, this company “supplies literally everything required in a hotel room,” asserts Mr. Jaspal Singh Sawhney, the chairman of the Eagle consortium. Mr. Ajay Khanna, CEO of this unit is a well known face to every premier hotel for their requirements. Parmeet Singh Sawhney who is now in charge of group operations joined in 1988. The following year he promoted a company which now caters to the requirements of large institutions including Airports, Schools, corporates etc. which include customized graphics, modular furniture and cafeteria furniture, safety films, counters, seating and monitoring equipment, as well as customized stations for Air Traffic Controller. Mr. Parveen Kapur, CEO of this company is a well known face in this sector. The group company, Falcon Interior Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. has now signed a JV with a Malaysian group to manufacture furniture for this niche sector. The group entered the spectrum of speciality chemicals in 1992 under the name of Eagle Forgings Pvt. Ltd. This company is now perhaps one of the largest suppliers of speciality chemicals, adhesives and shoe components for leather and footwear exporters. Mr. Gaurav Malik CEO of this unit regularly attends exhibitions in Italy to enhance the product range. In 2007, the group set up a JV with Kenda Farben

SPA of Italy with a modern plant at Noida which manufactures high technology adhesives, varnish, and intermediaries. In 1994, this rather interesting group forayed into the broadcast industry. Hameet Singh Sawhney armed with a computer Science Degree from Austin, Texas, USA was tasked to make a one-stop shop for all concerned utilities required for radio broadcast. Clients in this section of their work culture include All India Radio, Radio Mirchi, Radio City, My FM, etc. If this were not enough in 2004, the group launched Tonino Restaurant, serving fine dining Italian Cuisine. It is a matter of real pride that this restaurant has high profile customers of Delhi and now “we have a lineup of three Italian restaurants in the Delhi-NCR region.” Chef Suman Sharma will be pleased to create new and innovative dishes within a few minutes. Karan Sawhney joined the group in 2006 and expanded the scope of the broadcast company to cater to the software and hardware requirement of TV broadcasters. The group now caters to the software and hardware requirement of Radio as well as TV industry. The Group has now opened its first top end students hostel having 54 beds catering to students of North campus, Delhi University. This property is to be operated by a Singapore based company so that the students can have a global experience. Currently, the entire group turnover is in the region of about Rs 250 crore (2017-18). In all, this group comprises of six independently run companies and each of them is spearhead by a separate CEO at its helm. The mix of products which comes from the Eagle umbrella is a basket of imports from Italy, France, Spain, China, Germany, and England. We are increasingly expanding our manufacturing facilities in India to promote the “Make in India program”. Says Mr. Parmeet Singh Sawhney, the day- to- day in-charge of group operations, “we are numero uno in the quality rankings in the Delhi-NCR region.” Some of the important clientele of the Eagle group include hotels like Radisson, The Taj Group, ITC Hotels, GMR, etc. In addition, the top management team is able to consult with versatile and prolific people like James Joseph, advisor, business development, who is dean of a prominent business college in USA. A little interesting facet is that Mr. Jaspal Singh Sawhney joined business in Delhi in 1970 in a family company manufacturing furniture mainly for Hotels. It is here that he honed his business skills as sales man, manufacturer, exporter, and promoter. In all, the Eagle group, now has more than three hundred employees in its roster. A ninety percent staff retention figure is quoted for the entire employee strength. Each of the six companies has its own research and development setup. They spend about two percent of their turnover for this purpose. Each CEO has a personal stake in the company which is headed by them. Opportunities for personal growth are aplenty for each and every staffer of this eclectic group. Says Sawhney, “we always look out for a gap in the market for product introduction. In
