China protests to US over sail-by in disputed waters Sudan banks receive first foreign currency transfers

China said on Wednesday it has lodged a protest with the United States after an American warship sailed near disputed islands in the South China Sea. The US Navy missile destroyer Chafee entered into China’s territoria­l waters near the Paracel Islands on Tuesday, according to Beijing’s foreign ministry. China immediatel­y dispatched military vessels and aircraft for identifica­tion and warned the US ship to leave, ministry spokeswoma­n Hua Chunying told a regular Sudan has for the first time in 20 years begun receiving foreign currency inflows, the central bank said on Wednesday, days after the US government lifted decades-old trade sanctions on the northern African country. A statement by the bank confirmed the receipt of internatio­nal transfers in US dollars to two Sudanese banks, in what was the first signal of recovery for Sudan’s battered economy. REUTERS<
