Delhi, In­dia Au­gust 15 IN­DE­PEN­DENCE DAY This year marks In­dia’s 70th In­de­pen­dence Day cel­e­bra­tion. A speech by the Prime Min­is­ter of In­dia be­gins the cel­e­bra­tions. This is fol­lowed by a flag hoist­ing cer­e­mony at Red Fort the next morn­ing, and 21 hon­ourary gun­shots. On­look­ers stand in at­ten­tion to sing the na­tional an­them. They cheer the In­dian army march­ing through the streets of Delhi. The day comes to an end with the old tra­di­tion of fly­ing kites. In­de­pen­dence­day.nic.in

Gu­jo­hachi­man, Ja­pan all through Au­gust

GUJO ODORI The fes­tiv­i­ties com­mence in July and con­tinue un­til Septem­ber; but “Odori” dancers are sched­uled to per­form for 32 nights from mid-July to early Septem­ber. They use the streets as their stage and en­ter­tain on­look­ers, on some nights un­til sun­rise. Odori dancers cel­e­brate the unity of ten tra­di­tional folk dances and move through the en­tire town for each per­for­mance. It is a trib­ute to Ja­pan’s an­ces­tors. gu­jo­hachi­man.com
