• Legally, you can call it Scotch whisky only if it is dis­tilled in Scot­land, in­side oak bar­rels for at least three years.

• If it is pro­duced in Scot­land, you don’t spell it with an “e”— whiskey — it must be spelt as whisky.

• The two per cent whisky that grad­u­ally evap­o­rates when stored in bar­rels is termed “an­gel’s share”.

• Cur­rently, there are about 20 mil­lion casks of Scotch ma­tur­ing in Scot­land.

• World Whisky Day is cel­e­brated on May 20.
