Editor's Note

Car India - - FEATURE - — Aspi Bhathena, Editor, Car India

I have fond memories of the first Mahindra Scorpio. Back in 2002, when this truly Indian SUV was launched, the media was invited for a drive that covered 29 states of India, that too in just 29 days. The Scorpio was driven over every imaginable terrain, crossing the 15,000-km mark without causing any grief from a breakdown. The Mahindra kept forging ahead steadily, no matter what challenges we threw at it.

Over the years, the addition of new technologies and improvements on the Scorpio by India’s automobile major, Mahindra, gave us a sense of pride - such as the introduction of the Micro Hybrid system or the landmark mHawk engine. The Scorpio by Mahindra has become a household name among enthusiasts, business tycoons, adventure junkies, and even national leaders.

Internationally, this SUV has established itself as a global product, being exported to regions like Latin America, Africa, and many Asia-Pacific countries. While travelling abroad, the feeling of seeing a made-in-India car like the Scorpio on foreign soil is like nothing else.

Even in motor sport, the Scorpio has made a mark for itself. The Indian SUV can be seen participating and acquiring top spots in pretty much every adventure competition that takes place across India. The Scorpio never ceases to impress!

To conclude, the Scorpio remains a trusted, robust, and capable SUV that has overcome all the changing trends and still remains desirable even after 15 adventurous years since it was first rolled out. Here’s to many more.
