Interview: Akitoshi Takemura
Talking to Lexus India’s senior vice-president
CarIndia(CI): What kind of music do you enjoy listening to? Your favourite artiste or band? Akitoshi Takemura (AT): I absolutely love rock music. I am a big fan of Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist and co-principal songwriter of the rock band ‘Queen’. In fact, I would go a step ahead to say that Freddie was pure genius. I also have fond memories of listening to artistes like Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson during my schooldays.
(CI): Which is your favourite sport team? (AT): Baseball is my favourite sport and The Hanshin Tigers is by far my favourite team. It is even more special since they are the local team from my birthplace in Japan. I have grown up watching their games and players, and they continue to be on the top of my list of favourites in sport.
(CI): What is your preferred getaway destination? ( AT): It has to be Hawaii. I have been to all the islands in Hawaii. It is difficult not to fall in love with its rugged landscape of cliffs, waterfalls, tropical foliage, and beaches with different shades of sands. The locals extend the perfect omotenashi experience one can desire, though I only wish it was closer to India.
(CI): What sport do you enjoy playing in your free time? (AT): I must confess I can’t do without my daily dose of running. I took to running as a sport years ago, and haven’t looked back ever since. I believe that running has taught me a lot, discipline being the foremost. It has played an integral part in making me the person I am today. This also contributes immensely to my persona as a professional. I used to run a half marathon in two hours, and my all-time dream is to participate in the Honolulu Marathon, which I hope to do one day.
(CI): What is the one cuisine or dish you enjoy the most? (AT): It has been a while since I shifted base to India, and its best gift to me has been the ‘plain dosa’ with a humble ‘cutting chai’. The drink is not just refreshing, but is also excellent artistry.
(CI): Name the things that you carry in your pocket at all times? (AT): The one thing that I surely carry in my pocket at all times is the passion to move forward. At the end of my life, I would like to say, “Not a single piece of regret in my life.”
