Buyer at a Crossroads
At the outset I’d like to thank your team for bringing out a fantastic, information-packed issue every month. I am at a bit of a crossroads and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I have always been a sedan person and have stayed away from hatchbacks and SUVs as the three-box profile is what I believe a car should look like. My current car, a four-year-old Jetta, is now on the market, and, with a growing family, I can’t decide whether to look at another sedan or jump on to the luxury SUV bandwagon. What do you suggest? Could you share some pros and cons of both segments? What would be an ideal SUV at less than Rs 20 lakh and would it provide the same driving pleasure as a similarly-priced sedan? Looking forward to your inputs. Anil Sharma, Bhopal
If you enjoy that sporty driving feel, it’s difficult to replicate it in an SUV; however, the benefit of buying an SUV is that you can tackle bad roads without facing any issues. Sedan-wise, you may consider the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis or Škoda Octavia. SUV-wise, you may consider the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Creta. All these cars fit into your budget, and we recommend that you test-drive all of them to see what you like.
