McLaren and Honda Set for Di­vorce

Af­ter three years of dis­mal re­sults and more DNFs than the other en­gine sup­pli­ers com­bined, McLaren are fi­nally set to drop Honda and race Re­nault en­gines next year. Honda, mean­while, will stay in the sport and power the Toro Rosso team, af­ter ma­jor dis­cus­sions with se­nior-level man­age­ment en­cour­aged con­tin­ued par­tic­i­pa­tion and de­vel­op­ment in the sport.

The sweet­ener of the deal, so to speak, was the in­cen­tive of get­ting Car­los Sainz Jr. How­ever, the terms also see Red Bull with­out Re­nault en­gines the fol­low­ing year, 2019, with the switch to Honda seem­ing in­evitable.

Red Bull, mean­while, have an­nounced As­ton Mar­tin as their ti­tle spon­sor for the 2018 sea­son.
