Vice-chairman and MD, Mahindra Group
Mahindra & Mahindra is a name that is synonymous with auto manufacturing in India and the world. This 70-plus-year-old company has come a long way from its humble beginnings to become the global behemoth that it is today. Considerable credit for this expansion and growth goes to its present MD, Anand Mahindra.
Mahindra has an eclectic educational background. Apart from a master’s in business administration from the Harvard Business School, he also holds a degree in film-making and photography from the Harvard University. He made his first foray into the family company as an executive assistant at Mahindra Ugine Steel in 1981. Less than a decade later, he had climbed up the corporate ladder to take on the mantle of president and deputy MD of the company.
Under Mahindra’s leadership, the company has just launched the nine-seater TUV300 Plus and is expected to launch a slew of new cars in the near future, including the new Marazzo, a new flagship SUV based on the Mahindra-owned Korean marque SsangYong’s Rexton, and a more compact SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli.
