New age cus­tomer wants de­liv­ery with less cost and tran­sit time

In view of the tremen­dous growth of on­line pur­chase and door-to-door goods move­ments in the coun­try, Tamil Ra­jan, Lo­gis­tics Con­sul­tant, Firstcry.com, sug­gested seam­less lo­gis­tics ser­vices. He un­veils the suc­cess story of his com­pany as an in­stance of fast-chang­ing con­sumer be­hav­ior and the im­por­tant role that needs to be played by the third-party lo­gis­tics play­ers.

Brain Bees So­lu­tions, owner of the brands Firstcry.com and GoodLife.com, was founded in late 2010. The com­pany was started from a small bun­ga­low, when the four co-founders dis­cov­ered the po­ten­tial for kids and baby prod­ucts in In­dia, Thus, they con­cep­tu­alised FirstCry. com. on Septem­ber 9, 2010. Now, the com­pany has a three-floor cor­po­rate of­fice in Pune and main ware­houses with a ca­pac­ity of 1,50,000 sq ft & 25,000 sq ft. It has re­gional ware­houses at Delhi, Ben­galuru and Kolkata with com­bined ca­pac­ity of 40,000 sq ft.

Later, IDG Ven­tures In­dia led a US$14 mil­lion Se­ries-B round of in­vest­ment into Brain Bees So­lu­tions. In ad­di­tion; SAIF

Part­ners, the first in­sti­tu­tional in­vestor in Brain Bees, also par­tic­i­pated equally in the round.

Presently, Firstcry.com is Asia’s largest baby and kids eCom­merce por­tal. It ex­hibits over 50,000 items from 400+ top in­ter­na­tional and In­dian brands like Mat­tel, Ben10, Pi­geon, Fun­skool, Hotwheels, Nuby, Far­lin, Medela, Pam­pers, Dis­ney, Barbie, Ger­ber, Za­pak and Mee Mee.

Ra­jan as­serted that FirstCry.com now has the high­est re­peat cus­tomer base in the In­dian e-com­merce in­dus­try, stand­ing at over more than 60 per cent mar­ket share. “We of­fer very in­ter­ac­tive web­sites that give a real shop­ping ex­pe­ri­ence and of­fers low­est price on a huge range of prod­ucts.”

Brain Bees so­lu­tions launched its sec­ond por­tal (GoodLife.com) at the end of 2011 to cater to beauty/per­sonal care, health and food seg­ment. Its aim was to be a one-stop des­ti­na­tion for per­sonal care and life­style es­sen­tials. “The por­tal ex­hibits over 20,000 items from 500+ top in­ter­na­tional and In­dian brands like Adi­das, Calvin Klein ,Davidoff, EVA, Gil­lette, Gucci, Prada, Guess, Elle 18, L’Oreal Paris and Lakme; pro­vid­ing prod­ucts/brands at the low­est prices,” Ra­jan claimed.

Ac­cord­ing to him, col­lab­o­rat­ing with 150 ven­dors na­tion­ally and in­ter­na­tion­ally, Goodlife has a ro­bust lo­gis­tics and cus­tomer sup­port sys­tem aimed at de­liv­er­ing the best brands to the cus­tomer’s doorstep at the short­est pos­si­ble time.
