The PHD – GMR Round Ta­ble Talk, or­gan­ised by the GMR Group, saw se­ri­ous dis­cus­sions on the fu­ture of In­dian air cargo in­dus­try. The par­tic­i­pants dis­cussed the need for pa­per­less air cargo clear­ance. Par­tic­i­pants felt that there should be some trans­parency in the process of air cargo clear­ance, and also in doc­u­men­ta­tion re­quired at the air­port. Sec­re­tary of Min­istry of Civil Avi­a­tion Ashok Lavasa said that the min­istry would al­low air­port de­vel­op­ers to clear air cargo in the near fu­ture, pro­vided the re­quired cus­toms re­lated for­mal­i­ties are com­pleted as per es­tab­lished rules and reg­u­la­tions. An air-freight sta­tion pol­icy to en­able air­port de­vel­op­ers to clear such cargo into 24x7 ser­vice mode is also in the off­ing.
