Khal­ifa Port plans its cargo route ex­pan­sion

The port boasts about 20 weekly con­tainer line ser­vices to more than 50 des­ti­na­tions, con­nect­ing KIZAD, Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE with the world mar­kets.

Abu Dhabi Ter­mi­nals, op­er­a­tor of Khal­ifa Port Con­tainer Ter­mi­nal, will spend US$ 109mil­lion (400 mil­lion AED) in the next three years on ex­pand­ing the ter­mi­nal to han­dle more cargo.

The in­vest­ment will cover new cranes and in­creas­ing the yard ca­pac­ity of the port lo­cated in Tawee­lah, mid­way be­tween Dubai and Abu Dhabi, said Mar­tijn Van De

Linde, Chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer. The port boasts about 20 weekly con­tainer line ser­vices to more than 50 des­ti­na­tions, con­nect­ing Khal­ifa In­dus­trial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE with the world mar­kets.

The main im­port com­modi­ties at the port are hay, oil and gas re­lated prod­ucts, met­als, food­stuff, pa­per, con­struc­tion ma­te­rial, ma­chin­ery parts, pipes and tyres. The main im­port des­ti­na­tions are China, Sin­ga­pore, Tai­wan, South Korea, Italy, Spain, the US and In­dia.

Var­i­ous com­modi­ties like petro­chem­i­cal prod­ucts, alu­minium, met­als, pipes and con­struc­tion ma­te­rial are ex­ported from the port to China, Sin­ga­pore, South Korea, In­dia, Saudi, Egypt, Malaysia and Italy.
