More ports, airports get 24x7 Customs facility
Facility now available at 13 more airports and 14 more sea ports. This has been started with effect from December 31, 2014.
Acircular announcing extension of 24×7 Customs clearance facility in respect of all export goods at 13 more airports and 14 more sea ports in terms of specified import and export goods has been issued by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) with effect from December 31, 2014 pursuant to a promise made by Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget 2014-15 speech in the beginning of July 2014. The CBEC in its circular said, “Board has also decided that with effect from December 31, 2014 the facility of 24×7 Customs clearance for specified imports viz. goods covered by facilitated Bills of Entry and all exports viz. goods covered by all Shipping Bills will be made available, at 17 air cargo complexes.”
The move was started way back in September 2012 at four international air cargo complexes. Later, in June 2013, the order was extended to cover 13 more air cargo complexes. Related issues such as availability of required personnel, keeping open the delivery gates 24×7 at air cargo complexes, etc have been resolved.
