Do you envisage the future of supply chain and logistics courses?
The future looks very promising for supply chain and logistics courses, as they are being recognised as critical functional areas for business competiveness in India. The trends are visible in increased requests for programmes from our member companies and universities, colleges that are including logistics and supply chain functions as a specialisation, in addition to traditional marketing, human resources, finance, operations and systems functions. More important, the ongoing growth of the logistics sector and demand for qualified professionals would drive the demand for these courses.
Our recent initiative is the Institute to Industry (I2I) platform that aims at connecting deserving students with industry mentors to develop a synergetic effect. With inputs from focused committees, councils and academic alliances, we are moving towards aligning coursework with current sector skill needs. About 80 to 90 per cent of the logistics sector is unorganised and the speed of its transformation ascertains the future of logistics and supply chain courses.
