Per­ish­able ex­ports on de­cline, lack of pack­houses in Goa

Ac­cord­ing to the Goa Cham­ber of Com­merce and In­dus­try (GCCI), with the lack of cer­ti­fied per­ish­able pack­houses and ac­cred­ited test­ing labs in Goa, ex­port of veg­eta­bles and fruits dropped to four to five tonnes per day from a high of 60 tonnes per day in 2012. De­spite Goa In­ter­na­tional Air­port’s at­trac­tive freight rates, ex­porters found it dif­fi­cult to in­crease ex­ports and ex­pressed it in a meet­ing held with Ramesh Tawad­kar, Minister of Agri­cul­ture, An­i­mal Hus­bandry & Vet­eri­nary Ser­vices Tribal Wel­fare Sports & Youth Af­fairs, Goa Govern­ment.
