Take a drug and get off alcohol

Chemical Industry Digest - - Products & Processes -

For the addicts with craving for alcohol a new drug may help in getting rid of the tippling habit. This drug may reduce cravings for alcohol by targeting the brain’s immune system which triggers the need to drink in the evening. Researchers in Adelaide have tried this drug Naltrexane (an immune receptor blocker) as mice that were developed with alcohol drinking behavior. Researchers found that blocking a specific part of the brain’s immune system did decrease the motivation for mice to drink alcohol. It remains to be seen how this drug will work with human beings.
