AMAI Seminar on ‘New developments in O & M of membrane cells plants with energy saving and management in chlor-alkali sector’
recently organised Seminar on Operation and Maintenance of membrane cell plants with energy conservation in rectifier and auxiliary areas, offering considerable scope of savings. The Seminar and parallel exhibition was held in Goa on 6th and 7th Sep, 2017.
The event was attended by stake holders, 22 eminent speakers, 155 delegates and 65 companies. During the seminar experts from Technology Licensors shared their experience. Olaf Kos of Thyssenkrupp expressed his views on Integrated Asset Management. JOC presented Eco friendly and cost effective technology applied in brine treatment on removal of sulphate, iodine and TOC.
Telly Haley of Inovyn spoke about Voltage lifecycle and made presentation on Reducing Lifecycle costs through improved design and operation. B.S. Girla, Chairman Technical Committee expressed concern for low protection the industry gets from imports due to low customs duty on caustic, low anti dumping duties and sub sided import duties under Foreign Trade agreements.
Mithal Fal Desai, Denora, shared sodium sulphate splitting technology- best in waste to produce caustic without chlorine. “There is a need of caustic without chlorine due to stifled growth of Chlorine Derivative Industry in India as chlorine and caustic soda markets are rarely balanced, he said.
Another technical session covered experience sharing on Advancements by Membrane, Electrode coating & Technology suppliers like Chemours TM experience of NAFION N-2050 membrane for chlor-alkali process in India. Nafion TM’s N-2050, a high performing membrane is performing well and is readily available in all sizes and quantities for any replacement and project.
Asahi Kasei Corporation, Japan, shared their experience on newly developed Membrane Aciplex F7001X for low power consumption.
Initiatives to improve process and energy efficiency on Auxiliary Power & Water Consumption was shared by Grasim Industries Ltd, Karwar and Meghmani Finechem Ltd besides energy saving and management measures taken by Siel Chemical Complex and DCW Ltd.
Second day focussed on Energy saving and Management in ChlorAlkali sector. National Productivity Council, Chennai spoke about Best practices in chlor- alkali industry for
