Divya Jaitly & Sameer Jain take a table at the rooftop Evviva Sky Lounge

vision of ProSport Fitness was born more clearly in 2008, more so post my shoulder injury, when I wanted to create a facility that provides training, rehab, and physiotherapy under one roof, so you get the right guidance at the time you need it. I would travel abroad, because I wouldn’t find this kind of system in India. I wanted there to be a centre that would fill gap of injury management and sports rehabilitation, and that’s where the thought came from. When my first shoulder injury took me out of the field, I did my surgery, physio and my shoulder strengthening abroad. The only reason I did that is because I wasn’t sure that I would find everything under one roof in India. We do have fabulous surgeons in India, but physiotherapy is not up to the mark. And physiotherapy accounts for 40 per cent of your come back! Besides, as an athlete, you need aggressive physiotherapy. You don’t just recover from the surgery… You have to get back in shape as better as before. With my shoulder surgery, I could still go to the gym and train other parts of my body so that I could still be fit. Injuries do break the rhythm, but there are other ways of achieving the same thing, so your fitness levels are not lost drastically. This is why we have roped in Andrew Leipus and Adrian Le-Roux, who are the best-known names in training and physiotherapy. I was keen to get them on board; especially with my also having worked with them earlier, I wanted them to lead the team.

So ProSport is a new age gym with training and physio under one roof? In India, the surgeon does his job. Then what? The phsyio does his work… The trainer does his work. But they all do this in cycles. At ProSport, we complete the circle. The trainer and the physio work together to provide both pre-hab and rehab, which are customized programmes before and after the surgery. Sometimes surgery can be pushed, if you take the correct action for your injuries, and that’s what we do in pre-hab! Also, in cases of post-surgery, you need to have a whole system that will have to help you get back on your feet. Take ACL in your knees, for example, the rehab for which goes on for six months. But within six months, with a good trainer and physio, you can play any sport. The whole idea of having a hub like this is to feel a positive energy. You don’t feel like this is a clinic and something is wrong with you. You feel charged up to exercise.

What is Zaheer, the entrepreneur, like? Any leadership lessons from cricket you apply to business? How do you handle your time with so many things? Everything I know, I have learned from
