Start­ing off the con­ver­sa­tion about how Akuri by Puri hap­pened, she says, “It is one jour­ney I can re­count sev­eral times! Ini­tially, it was all about fab­rics. My mother and I used to hand­pick fab­rics from dif­fer­ent states and one fine day, we re­alised we had a lot of it! It was then that we de­cided to show­case the fab­rics and have an ex­hi­bi­tion for the same!” “It was an ex­cep­tion­ally suc­cess­ful ex­hi­bi­tion and the ad­mir­ers asked us to come up with de­signs to suit the fab­rics. It came across as a fine idea and we de­cided to work upon it. Then on, Akuri by Puri has had sev­eral ex­hi­bi­tions,” beams Am­rita. Next I ask her how they came up with the name Akuri by Puri, for it is very catchy in it­self! “I had been think­ing of a la­bel for a while and the name ‘ akuri’ (Parsi style of mak­ing scram­bled eggs) popped into my mom’s head.
