Empress Botanical Garden is a precious ecological green spot of Pune created in 1838 by a few well-meaning British officers, and is amongst the most important gardens in the heart of Pune. It is home to many rare species of trees, flowers and birds. Sadly, in this age where forests are cleared, trees are cut to make way for roads, we may see this beautiful garden giving way to yet another city’s infrastructure. Construction work is definitely going to affect the natural habitat of the birds. But if this construction work houses old trees and its botanical importance is preserved, then it will be a wonderful idea! Well, building the bungalows for the officers without disturbing the eco balance is a tough thing to happen. In my opinion, the land should stay as it is.
