Changing world of tractors

It was interesting to learn that much like trucks the world of tractors is also undergoing a change. Mahindra’s new tractor Jivo is a testimony. The bold dual-tone version of the Jivo is eye-catching to begin with. A 4WD coupled with the ability to work with larger implements like rotavator and cultivator take the tractor’s capability up many notches given the segment it has been launched in. On-board telematics will be a boon too. Mahindra’s move to penetrate the sub 25 hp segment seems tactical. Indeed mechanisation is the need of the hour with row crop farming and horticulture gaining prominence over conventional food grain production. It was on reading the article that I learnt of the fact, that 80 per cent of the total land holding in the country today is estimated to be at less than five acres. That it has witnessed only two per cent tractor penetration so far makes it an interesting segment to watch out for in the coming days.
