Three wheeler sales to pick-up pace
The removal of permit system in states like Maharashtra, and the intelligent use of technology to stay connected with the ground are some of the reasons being touted for the rise in three wheeler sales. With shared mobility providers like Ola aggressively expanding three-wheeler transportation to provide last mile connectivity for city commuters, the three wheeler market is expected to rise at good speed. Maharashtra accounts for 10 per cent of the overall three wheeler market, and will soon see Delhi join it with the release of fresh permits that add between 30,000 and 40,000 three wheelers per annum. With the app.-based model proving healthy in terms of transforming the image of an auto rickshaw in the minds of people, the three-wheeler market, according to industry experts, is likely to cross the major milestone of onemillion units in the next couple of years. The domestic market is expected to cross its previous peak of 5.5 lakh units per annum. Passenger carrying three-wheelers are expected to cross the critical half a million mark in the domestic market by 2019-2020.
