The July story on Volvo FMX 460 provided a good insight into the working of a workhorse. A first hand perspective of such machines work in a mine is not easy to come by. The Volvo trucks that we rarely see on the road are the ones that pull huge loads on those trailers with numerous wheels and multiple axles. I have always wondered why Volvo trucks are preferred by transporters to pull such massive loads. The article on FMX 460 provided a look at the technology that goes into these trucks, and why they are used to conduct such tasks. It is not just the looks of these trucks that impress, their ability to execute such jobs also impresses. Especially, every time I pass those truck and trailer combinations with a huge object either moving slowly on the extreme left, or parking outside a border check post. I remember reading a story on Volvo’s renewed on-highway thrust. Wonder what steps are being taken in that direction. The GST is said to change the working of transport industry. A shift to higher tonnage trucks could open the market for premium tech trucks like these.
