Daim­ler bus in Kenya on In­dian chas­sis

Daim­ler has launched two lo­cally built Mercedes-Benz buses in Kenya that em­ploy chas­sis pro­cured from In­dia and Brazil. The buses – MB 917 (10.4-tonne) and MB 1730 (18-tonne), for city and inter-city ap­pli­ca­tion, are built in Nairobi in co-op­er­a­tion with lo­cal sales part­ner, DT Do­bie Kenya, for the do­mes­tic mar­ket. Road con­di­tions in Kenya are chal­leng­ing, and the Mercedes-Benz 917 is said to ideal for use as an ur­ban, school or shut­tle bus. It can ac­com­mo­date up to 37 peo­ple. The Mercedes Benz 1730, at the other end, is de­signed for longdis­tance travel and has room for ap­prox­i­mately 60 pas­sen­gers. En­ter­ing a mar­ket that meau­res 2,500 units per year for new buses, the two Mercedes Benz buses are fit­ted with ABS. Built on ded­i­cated bus chas­sis, the buses are fit­ted with bod­ies in ac­cor­dance with the Daim­ler stan­dards.
