Daimler bus in Kenya on Indian chassis
Daimler has launched two locally built Mercedes-Benz buses in Kenya that employ chassis procured from India and Brazil. The buses – MB 917 (10.4-tonne) and MB 1730 (18-tonne), for city and inter-city application, are built in Nairobi in co-operation with local sales partner, DT Dobie Kenya, for the domestic market. Road conditions in Kenya are challenging, and the Mercedes-Benz 917 is said to ideal for use as an urban, school or shuttle bus. It can accommodate up to 37 people. The Mercedes Benz 1730, at the other end, is designed for longdistance travel and has room for approximately 60 passengers. Entering a market that meaures 2,500 units per year for new buses, the two Mercedes Benz buses are fitted with ABS. Built on dedicated bus chassis, the buses are fitted with bodies in accordance with the Daimler standards.
