Bio-Methane bus from Tata Motors
Tata Motors has unveiled a Bio-CNG (bio-methane) bus in India. Based on the LPO 1613 platform, and powered by a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated BSIV electronic engine the bus was displayed at ‘Urja Utsav’, a bio-energy event organised by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. With CNG powered LPO 1613 buses in the service of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) already, the bio-methane bus is expected to contribute positively to the smart cities proposition. Following the unveiling of a LNG bus on the same platform at Trivandrum a few months back, the Bio-CNG bus marks yet another innovative product from Tata Motors in alternate fuel technologies. Stressing upon the need to safeguard the environment, Girish Wagh, Head – Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, mentioned that the 5.7-litre biogas engine employs sequential gas injection technology, plug type coils, and long life spark plugs. The oil drain intervals are longer.
