The 9 m long electric bus developed by Tata Motors on the Ultra platform has commenced trials at Chandigarh. With a capacity to seat 31 passengers, the bus will run for 15 days. The electric bus trial at Chandigarh follows the trial of a 9 m electric bus from Parwanoo to Shimla. The bus is said to have performed well, covering the distance of 160 km on a full charge. The trials at Chandigarh are said to be showing encouraging results. Consuming 70 per cent of the charge, the bus travelled for 143 km claimed sources aware of the development. A part of the Ministry of Road Transport’s agenda to electrify public transport in smart cities, the trial is expected to provide data to the manufacturer and a deep understanding of the factors that govern the smooth operation of a transport vehicle.
