Intelligent Tata DLT trailer
Tata International DLT has introduced an ‘intelligent’ trailer. Debuting at the recent Truck Trailer and Tyre Expo held at Gandhinagar, the ‘intelligent’ trailer is fitted with state-of-theart technology that provides the required data to optimise its operation, and to maintain it. Claimed to be the first of its kind in India, the ‘intelligent’ trailer will help the fleet operator to enhance operational efficiency and make the life of the fleet manager less worrying according to Rajeev Batra, CEO, Tata International DLT. Drawing attention to his company’s feat of being India’s first AIS 113 manufacturer with certification from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in addition to having acquired TS16949-2009 and ISO 9001:2008 certifications for 25 types of its trailers, Batra mentioned that ‘intelligent’ flatbed trailer is the first in a series of intelligent trailers of various types that his company will launch. “These are lightweight trailers,” he added.
Aimed at reducing the dependence on manual tracking, the ‘intelligent trailer’ has been designed and built to deliver higher payload. Customised according to Batra, the trailer has been developed to ensure superior profitability to the fleet operator. “Coming from India’s largest trailer manufacturer, which is also one of the biggest brands for trailers and truck bodies in India, the ‘intelligent’ trailer is part of our endeavor to keep innovating and developing revolutionary products for our customers,” he expressed. Engineered to enhance safety, security and efficiency, the ‘intelligent’ trailer is part of the company’s strategy to become a complete solutions provider in the trailers and transportation industry. Said Batra, “We are on the right path and at the right speed to become a complete solutions provider in the trailers and transportation industry with a competitive advantage in cost, quality and delivery.” Claimed to offer a significant value addition, the ‘intelligent’ trailer leverages the capabilities of trailer anti-lock or electronic braking control systems to provide a platform for up to 40 innovative trailer operating functions. Providing a way to the trailer industry in India to upgrade from a ‘basic’ trailer with a basic braking and suspension system to a trailer that incorporates an advanced braking and suspension technology, the ‘intelligent’ trailer is a step in the direction of rising automation in trucks and trailers according to Batra. The advanced T-EBS (Trailer Electronic Braking System) the ‘intelligent’ trailer is equipped with, optimises stopping distances and controls the trailer brake and suspension functions. The system has been designed such that it enables the trailer to connect drivers, fleets and cargo owners to rich sources of onboard systems and operational information. What makes it most interesting is the amount of customisation the ‘intelligent’ trailer could be subjected to. Tata International DLT offers a comprehensive range of customising solutions for trailers. These are primarily aimed at enhancing operating safety and reducing transportation and fuel costs. The ‘intelligent’ flatbed trailer program has functionalities on addon basis, and aimed at elevating performance. Some of these include Tailguard, Optiturn, Bounce Control, Smartboard, Trailer remote control, OptiLevel and Optitire. Tata International DLT is claimed to have collaborated with Wabco and some other specialist suppliers to design and develop the ‘intelligent’ trailers. The global know-how and capabilities of such suppliers have leveraged to arrive at the ‘intelligent’ trailer.
