Cheese can be a source of key nu­tri­ents and is a part of the diet of many, more so for veg­e­tar­i­ans who look to get more pro­tein from dairy prod­ucts. While the tra­di­tional and nat­u­ral cheese is vastly su­pe­rior to pro­cessed cheese, the lat­ter has a huge mar­ket share due to easy avail­abil­ity, con­ve­nience fac­tors and longer shelf life. There are reg­u­la­tions in place for com­mer­cially avail­able cheese, with re­gard to mois­ture con­tent, milk fat con­tent, bac­te­rial con­tam­i­na­tion, and pack­ag­ing and la­belling. The fol­low­ing re­port as­sesses six brands of cheese slices on these pa­ram­e­ters .

Of the six brands, one, Bri­tan­nia Slimz, is pro­pri­etary food. Pro­pri­etary food means an ar­ti­cle of food that has not been stan­dard­ised un­der Food Safety & Stan­dards Reg­u­la­tions. The five other brands are pro­cessed cheese slices.
