Global Road Safety Week

The Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week was or­gan­ised from 8 May to 14 May 2017. The fo­cus was to in­crease un­der­stand­ing of the dan­gers of speed and gen­er­ate ac­tion on mea­sures to ad­dress this ma­jor risk as­pect in re­la­tion to road traf­fic death and in­jury.

A #Slow­Down cam­paign was launched and a num­ber of ac­tiv­i­ties were car­ried out glob­ally dur­ing this week. Con­sumer VOICE utilised so­cial me­dia plat­forms to cre­ate aware­ness about speed and safety, and urged peo­ple to slow down on roads to save their own and oth­ers’ lives. The team also sen­si­tised peo­ple on the roads and got them to pledge to re­duce their ve­hic­u­lar speed.

ISO COPOLCO work­shop on road safety

Ashim Sanyal, COO, Con­sumer Voice, par­tic­i­pated as a speaker and pan­elist at the ISO COPOLCO (ISO’s Com­mit­tee on Con­sumer Pol­icy) work­shop on road safety or­gan­ised at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 16 and 17 May. He pre­sented a na­tional case study based on road safety chal­lenges in In­dia and the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Amend­ment Bill, 2016. Ex­perts from var­i­ous coun­tries par­tic­i­pated in the work­shop and dis­cus­sions took place on the im­por­tance of stan­dards in the area of road safety.
